In a few recent blogs and videos I’ve talked about social distancing, COVID restrictions, etc.
And how I’ve stuck to them to the letter since day one.
It’s generated a few conversations.
And I’ve been asked variations on the same question several times.
“Do you always stick to the rules?”
And my answer has been the same each time.
“Actual rules, mostly”
“Made up, self imposed ones? Not so much”
I generally see the laws of the land, COVID restrictions, etc as what we’ve agreed as a society is a way of behaving that is mutually beneficial.
Not perfect, sure.
But it’s about us all working together to do our best to do the right thing for everyone.
You know, not killing each other, stealing, etc.
Following an imperfect approach to protecting each other during a pandemic, where no perfect approach exists (or we’re not aware of it).
And I get that not every one will feel the same as me about following these ‘rules’.
And that’s cool.
But it’s always interesting how unwilling some people are to follow ‘other people’s’ rules.
But regularly limit themselves with their own self imposed ones.
“That’s not breakfast”
“You can’t do that”
“I can’t do that”
Fictional definitions of exercise and healthy eating that require an amount of time and effort they don’t feel they can justify.
As always, we’d never tell anyone what the ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ do.
Not our place.
No one’s place.
Follow the rules.
Don’t follow the rules.
But, perhaps, you might benefiting from questioning where some of the ‘rules’ you’re following are actually rules at all?
